Raymond

A Rescue Story

raymond Note: The following are Raymond's thoughts as communicated through Bridgette Noel, Interspecies Communicator.

"I remembered when I lived in a comfortable place with other Silkys and nice people. I had a beautiful coat. I was a show dog. I played and had everything a little dog needed. And then something happened. I don't know what I did wrong, but I was sold to a couple. They cut off my beautiful hair. They said it was too much bother to brush it out once a week. They kept me in a dark basement with no food or water for days on end. I had no contact with other animals or people. I was kept in the dark all by myself. I became very sick. My teeth hurt, my head hurt I just wanted to die, die, die. "

"Something happened to that couple, I don't know what, but I was taken to the Animal Shelter in Orange County. I was scheduled to die on February 11th. I was so sick and I had lost all hope. Dying seemed like the solution to all of my pain. I still did not understand what I did wrong."

"I was all dirty, wet, and didn't smell good at all. All the other dogs around me in the other cages were gone. The people in uniform took them away. I heard them talking that it would happen to me later that day. Something about rescue, they were coming to see me. I didn't care my whole body hurt. I was so cold there in the dark cage I just wanted to die. There was no hope for me. Then the door of the cage was opened, a person in uniform put a leash around my neck, I knew this was my time, my time to die. I was so weak I could hardly walk. I tried to tell him, but he just dragged me."

"I saw someone; she looked at me and said, "Yes, that is a Silky". The person in uniform was saying how I smelled. This person took the leash, and told me things would be better now. I tried to walk, but it was so hard. All of a sudden, this lady picked me up. She told me again that everything would be O.K. She gave me a big hug and kissed my head. She didn't care if I smelled. I felt safe. When we got to her truck she got out a big soft towel and dried me off. I felt better. It was a long drive to her house and we had to stop twice because I had to go potty."

"When we arrived, the first thing that happened was that I got a bath. It felt so good to be clean again. I was dried, brushed out, and my nails cut. I was so glad that she cut my nails because they hurt my feet. Then I got to meet the rest of the family. There was Charlie, a Silky; Mouse a Border Collie, and Trooper the cat. They were all nice to me, especially Mouse, she is Mommy Dog, I really like her."

"The next day we went to the doctor. Dr. Perry was nice and gentle with me. I was put on antibiotics for my infected teeth and dental was scheduled. Two weeks later I was scheduled to have my teeth cleaned. However, it was decided that I should have blood work done. The results showed that I was diabetic. I was put on insulin and special food. They are still trying to get my diabetes under control, but I feel so much better."

"I am very happy now. I have a nice safe place to live the rest of my life with people and other animals that love me. That's why they gave me a name, Raymond. Because EVERYONE LOVES RAYMOND! I am very lucky that STCA Silky Rescue found me."

Silky Kisses,
Raymond

Raymond was estimated to be about 12 years old when he was rescued this spring. He has some vision problems, probably due to his diabetes. His rescuers, the Schultes, were planning to pick him up and foster him for a while until a home could be found...but he fit in so well and they fell in love with him, so now he has his forever home.

August 15, 2000. Very sad news...Raymond's health took a sudden turn for the worse and he journeyed to the Rainbow Bridge, where he will wait for his family. He had a wonderful home for his last six months where he had the best of care and where he was loved very much.
